Where to buy quality worm clamps? - The Garage Journal

ABA clamps are among the best, the blue part is one piece. Other good brands are Norma (owns ABA) and Mikalor. Anything that says general purpose clamp is **** and is only good for garden hose (maybe).

Tighten to 3.5Nm from loose (4 Nm for large sizes 60mm+). To retighten or check, loosen it first. If you check/tighten a hose clamp screw the next day it will appear loose, it isn't, that's why loosening it first and retightening is important. Proper or maximum clamping force isn't related to tightening torque after a point. Overtightening a clamp may do more harm than good.


Better type for hot / cold applications where the clamp is subjected to extreme temperature differences, eg automotive turbo hoses.

But for some applications (eg fuel lines) constant torque clamps are best. Even the above blue ABAs have loosened on me on some 13mm fuel lines after a year.

Never understood why some of these places supply such ****, when decent clips are so inexpensive.

In the U.K. we have a “British Standard” for hose clips. Those that meet it are clearly marked, but there are an awful lot that don’t.

I like “Jubilee” clips, still made by the original inventors, but they’re a British firm and I don’t know what their U.S. availability is like. MSC are a supplier in the U.K. so they might be an option.
They offer a considerable range. I like their stainless steel clips so much, that I generally install them on all my own equipment.

Other makes I’ve used satisfactorily are Terrys and Norma. There has been a big shortage of clamps in the US for months. The local auto parts places were out for the better part of 6 months. They just recently started getting them again. One of them has a style I've never seen before. It has ridges on a sleeve inside it running like the ones on a serpentine belt.

I found them on Google. They are dual bead constant tension hose clamps. I've never used them or even seen them before.

Norma or ABA. Doesn't cut into the hose if overtightened. I like using a 1/4" flex driver like a SO TM62. Not only good for reaching into a confined area, when it flexes too much to turn the socket, the clamp is tight enough.
I have the RIDGID brand T-handle tool built specifically for this purpose. It has a clicker style torque setting built in. Use it all the time. It wont get in tight spots though.
ABA all-stainless clamps are superior. Get non-perforated clamps.

Dont know why the ones on the right are called "High Torque", this complete performation is not desirable, all good clamps' "teeth" look like the ones on the left...
