Operating and maintaining the Valmet Cutter is now safer than ever. Fully automatic features ensure maximum productivity while complying with the highest safety regulations. In addition to sophisticated safety features, attention has been paid to ease of maintenance and control of the slitter and cutter assemblies, enhancing reliable operation, high availability and cutting quality. For optimum safety, the entire cutting area is fully enclosed, preventing access. The safety devices are designed to allow easy maintenance and service.
Chancing from one sheet size to another, for example when running wrapper sheets, is quickly accomplished. When the push-button for the desired sheet size is pressed on the control panel, the cutter keeps stacking the sheets until the unfinished stack is ready. Then, the reject gate opens, and the full bale table is emptied simultaneously. After this, the slitters, separating wedges, divider plates, and sheet stops move to the positions required for the new sheet size. The speed of the cross-cutting roll adjusts to match the new sheet length. All these functions are fully automatic. After this, the cutter is ready to start making bales with a new sheet size at the push of the reject gate closing-button. All this takes less than a minute.
The cutter is provided with an automation system that controls all the functions. Manual controls are placed in a control panel and marked with distinct symbols. The local layboy control panel has an info display that provides instructions to the operator and detects possible defects. Control of the dryer pull press is connected to the dryer control system (DCS) or can be provided with its own individual control system. This allows the cutter control system to be switched off while still maintaining the sheet through the dryer and falling into the dry end pulper. The cutter always comes with a complete pneumatic equipment package and a hydraulic unit with piping and controls.
Automatic Clean-up Concept enhances safety and user-friendliness. Cross-cutting, overlapping and conveyor sections open to create more space for effective cleaning. Most of the jams are removed automatically. If needed, manual cleaning can be easily done from the operating platforms without the need to go inside the cutter.
