Tractor pto vs cutter pto help - GON Forum

New to tractors as of last year. Running a little old Massey Ferguson 210 with 25 hp and according to manual it has a 22hp pto. I'm looking at buying a new rotary cutter as the one we have is pretty beat up.

I mostly cut fields with saplings up to 2" diameter, which puts me at needing a medium to heavy duty cutter. But with the ratings of this tractor, I should be using standard and light duty cutters.

Can I use cutters with higher required pto ratings for better cutting diameter than what my tractor calls for?

I'm looking at Titan rotary cutters. The one I think would suit me better(medium/ heavy) says it's rated for a 32-90 hp tractor with a 2" cutting diameter and 100hp gearbox

The one that matches my tractor is 25-45 hp light duty with cutting diameter of 1.5" and a 55hp gearbox.

Could I effectively run the med/heavy duty and is that extra half inch rating really worth it?
you can run the HD as long as your tractor can handle the extra weight.

If you are cutting 2 inch stuff regular like, I would get a bigger tractor

I agree. I kind of inherited this tractor and work lol so I'm working with what I have at this point.
That tractor probably should only have a 4 ft mower. If you get a 4 footer it will likely be lighter duty.

Tractor is about 5' at rear wheels. Been pulling the 5' foot cutter for over 30 years that I'm replacing I take it that you're looking at the 300 series. Fine looking machine. The only concern I would have would be the weight of the mower.

I have a Kubota L with a 29.5hp pto and I use a 72" mower that weighs in at 850lbs. I have no problem at all with it but everything hinges on your tractor weight and all. Mines a Everything Attachments 72" they also have a 60 inch model.
