Jute and Burlap, what differentiates them?

The small Jute fibers are the ones that are spun in parallel to form the network that gives rise to the burlap. Previously made from hemp and currently mostly made from Jute, burlap has innumerable uses as it maintains the organic and moisture-insulating properties of Jute. So is jute the same as burlap?

The manufacturing material -Jute- is the same, but the product that results from the way in which the fibers are arranged is different -Jute Burlap-.

Recurring uses of burlap are the following:

  • Manufacture of sacks, baskets, bags and packaging. They have various uses in the agricultural market, since it is a resistant and breathable material, which prevents the products from losing their freshness.
  • Curtains, blinds or covers, among other decorative textile uses.
  • Upholstery of armchairs, armchairs or rugs, giving a rustic and cozy look to the environments.
  • Replacement of the mat, and having a similar shape, it allows the making of embroidery, widely used in centerpieces and table linens.
