Knowing the size of your frame, will allow you to get the right file, and connect with the right printer (including your own at home)
It's trickier to shop for a frame than to select a printing service.
In other words, many printers can print many sizes, the frame you want may not be available in the style and size combination you want.

Know what fits in your frame! There's an opening on the back where the print will be slotted. Measure that!
here's the back of a 12" x 12" frame
This opening will be the size of paper you need. Tell us this size, and we will scale the digital image file to fit. Tell this to your printer, and they will know what paper options they have, and how to cut it if necessary.
Printing services will want 3 pieces of information at minimum.
a. The size of your print (which we discussed above)
b. The sheen of the paper - Matt, Semi-gloss, Gloss
• generally - if you're putting the paper behind glass, get a matte print
• if the paper is to be exposed, like a poster, use gloss.
c. The thickness or weight of your paper
• if you're framing it, should ask for 50 lbs (pounds) to 100 lbs weight.
If you want to learn more, please visit our website Custom Printing And Framing.
• This will ensure the paper is rigid enough to frame and not buckle or be wavy (humidity) the next time you host a crab boil in the kitchen.
regardless of who you select to print, call them first and ask if can print the size you want in a timely fashion.
You can save yourself a trip, by sending them your print file ahead of time (all our digital links are friendly) - and pick up the print when it's finished.

Photo prints on canvas have been sweeping the nation in recent years, and they can be an absolute game-changer when it comes to sprucing up the decor! Canvas prints provide a gallery-quality look, can be purchased at an affordable price, and mix well with the decor in any space. Since you’re reading this article, you’re probably already interested in purchasing canvas prints, and we just want to mention a few things to consider first!
1. Decide where you want to display the canvases
If you’re interested in printing custom canvas wall art prints, chances are that you’ve already thought about and accomplished this step, but first thing’s first anyway: Locate a place where you plan to display your canvases. Canvases are very versatile and can be displayed with charm in many different places! That might be somewhere in your own home, such as in your living room or dining area, or you might be looking into displaying a photo canvas or fine art canvas in your office space. This can vary from a small space to a large space, and as an accent piece to a centerpiece. If it’s not going to be for you, and instead, a gift, consider the space where your giftee might display the canvas.
2. Find a photo printer that uses high-quality materials
With the right materials, canvas prints are absolutely stunning! Here at Simple Canvas Prints, we use some of the best quality materials out there, using acid-free, archival canvas material and printing with high-quality latex inks and printers. The latex inks that we use allow for vibrant photo transfers, and they are eco-friendly, having both Ecologo and Greenguard certifications. In addition, our canvas stretcher bar wooden frames are made of real pinewood, providing sturdy, long-lasting durability for high-quality canvas prints. And, of course, our canvas prints are made with love, printed and assembled in the U.S.A.!
3. Choose a meaningful photo (or more)
Whether the image is meaningful to you personally or whether the image is meaningful to the room itself (think color schemes, vibes, and patterns), choose an image (or images) that are meaningful enough to be a part of the room’s decor. Family photos, or photos of the people (and pets) that mean the most to you are always a great choice when it comes to choosing a meaningful image. In addition, you may have taken your own photos of some of your favorite places and things, and those can absolutely become a spot on the wall, too.
Are you an artist? If so, canvas art prints are the perfect opportunity to display your work and make it a part of the home decor. Have a business with a logo? You can print your company’s logo on canvas, and make it a part of the office wall decor.
4. Check that the image is high-quality
We may have mentioned this a time or two before, but we really want to stress the importance of this step in assuring a high-quality print. Some images may print better, when enlarged, than others. To assure that the image you chose will print well and to determine the largest size possible for the best canvas print, take a look at our image resolution guide here. We also talk about tips on how to assure an image’s quality from the get-go.
5. Determine the dimensions and quantity that you would like
Measure the space that you want to fill with works of art on canvas, and then determine how many canvases you would like to fill that area with. One medium or large canvas print? A few small canvases? A museum-quality canvas wall display containing a combination of multiple sizes? A triptych? As you might have guessed, there are several size frame options and displays to choose from! No display or size is better than the other, it just depends on your preference and your space.
Gifting to someone else to brighten their day? Anywhere from a small 8”x8” canvas size to a medium 16”x20” canvas size make for great gifts and are generally able to work in anyone’s space. They can be hung up on a wall or rested against a wall by sitting on a tabletop, dresser, or mantle! However, if you know, for certain, of a large wall space that the giftee wants to fill or update, then, by all means, go large!
Additional Tip:
You might have chosen a high-quality image that would print well on any canvas size in regards to resolution, which is ideal! However, you might find that the size you were thinking about getting doesn’t quite fit all of the important parts of your image onto the face of the canvas when you’re cropping it on the website. If this happens, the best thing to do is to opt for a black or a white border style as opposed to a photo-wrapped canvas. This will allow more of your image to appear on the face of the canvas. If that still doesn’t quite resolve the unwanted cropping, it would be best to select a different image that would better fit that size, or, opt for a size that would better fit that image. For more information on cropping, take a look at our short video here.
