We usually recommend getting a machine with a melting unit because some types of EPE, typically with a small cell structure, tend to re-expand when they leave the machine. The melting unit only melts the outer layer to make a smooth surface that will keep the material compacted. The alternative to the melting unit is to compact directly into endless bags.
